5 Proven Tips to Maximise Your Hypnotherapy Results
Five practical strategies to bridge the gap between your clinical hypnotherapy sessions and lasting, permanent change in your daily life.
Ever feel like your therapy session is a “pocket dimension”? You gain incredible insights during the hour, but the moment you step back into the real world, those “aha” moments start to fade.
To turn therapeutic insights into lasting change, you need to bridge the gap between my office and your daily life. Here is how to make your hypnotherapy results stick.
1. Capture your insights
Don’t rely on memory alone. Your brain is busy, and stress can make “working memory” fuzzy.
Review Later: Looking back at these notes in six months is a powerful way to measure your growth.
Take Micro-Notes: Jot down three bullet points or a single powerful realisation on your phone or a notepad immediately after we finish.
Doodle: If words aren’t your thing, a simple sketch can anchor a feeling or concept.
2. Treat mindfulness like a muscle
I often suggest breathing exercises, body scans, or journaling. These aren’t just “homework”—they are the repetitions that build your mental strength.
Stack Your Habits: Link your new practice to something you already do. Try breathwork while the kettle boils or positive affirmations while brushing your teeth.
Avoid the “Instant Fix” Trap: Some people feel immediate relief; for others, it’s a slow build. Consistency is the secret sauce.
3. Be an active participant
I recently worked with two clients, both high-achievers. One invested plenty of money but struggled to find time for the “work” between sessions. The other committed just five minutes a day to her practice.
The result? The second client saw breakthroughs significantly faster. Hypnotherapy and mindfulness create the map, but you are the one who has to walk the path.
4. Overcome your resistance
It’s normal to feel a “block” or doubt. Resistance isn’t a sign to stop; it’s a sign you’re touching on something important. When you feel it, stay curious. Ask yourself:
What is my “why” for making this change?
Am I open to trying this, even if it feels strange?
5. Support the basics
Therapy works best when your biology is on your side. You can accelerate your progress by focusing on the “Big Four” Wellbeing Essentials:
-
Nutrition & Hydration: Fuel your brain for change.
-
Movement: Shake off stagnant energy.
-
Sleep Hygiene: Give your mind time to process the session.
-
Social Connection: Spend time with people who lift you up.
Your transformation depends on what happens between our sessions. If you are ready to be an active partner in your healing, you’ve already done the hardest part.
If you want to make the most of your sessions
You will get the most out of your therapy if you:
-
genuinely want to part with the old pattern or behaviour
-
are motivated to make these changes now
-
bring an open mind and a bit of trust in the process
-
are willing to work through resistance to achieve your goals, and
-
consider how you can adopt changes in your life, in a realistic way.
It’s OK to have doubts. Resistance is common and can even be a good sign! Do your best to notice and welcome it. Practice objectivity. Enquire gently to work through it.
Remember the basics of wellbeing
Other articles about wholistic health, and your GP will mention them. The building blocks of wellbeing:
-
A healthy, well-balanced diet and drinking enough water
-
Regular exercise that suits your body
-
Quality sleep supported by good sleep hygiene
-
Positive social time with friends, family, or members of a hobby group
-
Practicing mindfulness activities that you already know help. This could be breathwork, time in nature or doing something crafty.
Of course, you may struggle in one or more of these areas - so many of us do! But putting your best foot forward in these areas will support you in every aspect of your life… Including your therapeutic goals.
It’s well established that our brain and body are not the separate entities we used to believe them to be. Look after one part and the other will benefit, too. Look after both and you’ll be on your way!
