Hi, I'm Frankie.

Accredited Clinical Hypnotherapist

I know how exhausting medical anxiety can be. I help clients safely update the automatic responses that make visiting the doctor difficult, so they can attend appointments with more confidence and calm.

The reality of medical anxiety

Anxiety about visiting a doctor or hospital often starts long before the waiting room. Perhaps the moment a check-up is recommended or when a new symptom is noticed.

For those caught in this cycle, the challenges may include:

  • Anticipatory worry: Losing sleep in the days or weeks leading up to an appointment.
  • Sensory triggers: Feeling overwhelmed by the smell of a hospital or the sight of a white coat (often called ‘white coat syndrome’).
  • Physical panic: Experiencing a racing heart, shallow breathing, or chest tightness.
  • The ‘avoidance toll’: Delaying check-ups or ignoring symptoms until they become more complex and expensive to treat.

This ongoing cycle of stress and avoidance can severely impact long-term health and peace of mind.

Logic doesn’t stop the fear: Medical anxiety is an automatic, subconscious response. Entering a clinic can trigger an instinctive ‘survival’ response, even though the rational brain knows that you are safe and in expert hands.

How clinical hypnotherapy can help

Hypnotherapy aims to bypass the logical part of the brain and communicate directly with the subconscious. This enables us to safely update automatic patterns so that the clinical environment no longer triggers a distressing physical response.

During our collaborative sessions, you will discover how to:

  • ‘Dial down’ the triggers: Observe clinical settings without the nervous system going into overdrive.
  • Maintain internal space: Use visualisation to gently shift attention elsewhere during consultations or minor procedures.
  • Support physical calm: Learn techniques to support steady breathing and a calmer heart rate.
  • Build confidence: Shift from overwhelm to feeling more grounded and ready to actively participate in personal healthcare.

Common questions about hypnotherapy for medical anxiety

Do I have to ‘relive’ past negative experiences?

No. Clinical hypnotherapy focuses heavily on the present. We look at the process of the problem—how the mind is creating the anxiety right now—and explore how to safely update that pattern. You are never pushed to share more than you feel comfortable with.

Can this help with ‘white coat syndrome’?

Yes. ‘White coat syndrome’ is essentially an automatic stress response triggered by medical professionals or clinical environments. Strategic hypnotherapy focuses on updating these subconscious associations, helping the nervous system remain calmer during check-ups and consultations.

How many sessions are typically required?

The goal is to help you build your confidence as quickly as possible. Around three to six sessions are typically recommended to help with medical anxiety. We will review your progress at each session to ensure you are building the mental framework and physical relaxation tools needed for your next appointment.

How do we meet?

Sessions are held via secure online video calls (telehealth). This allows you to learn new skills and practice calming techniques in the comfort of your own home, well before you ever step foot in a clinic.
