Hi, I'm Frankie.

Accredited Clinical Hypnotherapist

I know how exhausting needle phobia can be. I help clients safely update the automatic responses that make blood tests and vaccinations difficult, so they can attend appointments with more confidence and calm.

The reality of needle phobia

Anxiety about needles often starts long before stepping into a clinic. Perhaps the moment a blood test is requested by a doctor or when planning overseas travel.

For those caught in this cycle, the challenges may include:

  • Anticipatory worry: Losing sleep in the days or weeks leading up to a vaccination or procedure.
  • Physical panic or fainting: A racing heart, dizziness, or a ‘vaso-vagal response’ (fainting).
  • The ‘avoidance trap’: Delaying IVF treatment, avoiding important medical care, or cancelling travel plans.
  • The health toll: Ignoring routine blood tests until preventable health issues become more complex and expensive.

This ongoing cycle of stress and avoidance can severely impact long-term health, career or family opportunities, and overall well-being.

Logic doesn’t stop the fear: Needle phobia is an automatic, subconscious response. Even just thinking about entering a clinic can trigger an instinctive ‘survival’ response and may lead to a distressing drop in blood pressure — even though the rational brain knows the procedure is quick and safe.

How clinical hypnotherapy can help

Hypnotherapy aims to bypass the logical part of the brain and communicate directly with the subconscious. This enables us to safely update automatic patterns so that the prospect of a needle no longer triggers a distressing physical response.

During our collaborative sessions, you will discover how to:

  • ‘Dial down’ the triggers: Observe clinical environments without the nervous system going into overdrive.
  • Maintain internal space: Use visualisation to gently shift attention elsewhere during blood tests or procedures.
  • Support physical regulation: Learn practical techniques to help keep breathing and heart rate steady, reducing the likelihood of a vaso-vagal response.
  • Build confidence: Shift from overwhelm to feeling more confident and ready to actively participate in essential healthcare.

Common questions about hypnotherapy for needle phobia

Is this exposure therapy? Will I have to look at needles?

No. Clinical hypnotherapy is quite different from exposure therapy. We use guided relaxation to safely update the way the mind categorises medical environments, without exposing you to the things that set off the subconscious alarm system. You are never pushed to share or do more than you feel comfortable with.

Can it help stop me from fainting during blood tests?

Fainting is often related to the ‘vaso-vagal response’, which is triggered by subconscious distress. By helping the mind decouple the procedure from the feeling of panic, we aim to teach the nervous system how to stay calmer and more regulated. We also build your practical toolkit to help support physical calm during appointments.

How many sessions are typically required?

The goal is to help you build your confidence as quickly as possible. Around three to six sessions are typically recommended to help with needle phobia. We will review your progress at each session to ensure you are building the mental framework and physical relaxation tools needed for your next medical visit.

How do we meet?

Sessions are held via secure online video calls (telehealth). This allows you to learn new skills and practice calming techniques in the comfort of your own home, well before you ever step foot in a clinic.
